Cardinal Women In Second At Peg Barnard Collegiate

Stanford, Calif. - Four Cardinal golfers finished today's first round in the top 10 individually to help pace the Stanford women's golf team with a three-over par 287 today at the Peg Barnard Collegiate. The Cardinal in second place overall just one stroke behind the leader, Denver, who carded a two-over par 286 this afternoon at the par 71, 6,037 yard Stanford Golf Course. Rounding out the top five are Long Beach State (289), San Jose State (298) and Hawaii (301).
Oregon State is sixth (302), followed by San Francisco (303), Washington State (307), Fresno State (307), UC Davis (309), Portland State (313), Eastern Washington (326) and Santa Clara (328).
Long Beach State's Kay Hoey shot a blistering six under par 65 today to take a four stroke lead on the individual leaderboard. Denver's Stephanie Sherlock is second with a two-under 69 while Stanford's Lauren Todd is third with a one-under 70. Cardinal Mari Chun and Denver's Emily Hoeper are tied for fourth at even par 71.
Senior Jennifer Tangtiphaiboontana, along with teammate Angela King, are tied for ninth with a two-over par 73 on the day. Freshman Catherina Wang is a stroke behind them with a 74 and is tied for 14th. Ki-Shui Liao, competing as an individual, is tied for 21st at four-over 75. Saana Rapakko, also competing as an individual, is tied for 42nd with a 79.
Stanford led the field with 18 birdies on the day with Todd and Wang carding five each. King, Liao and Chun each recorded three birdies on the afternoon.
Competition wraps up with the final 18 holes tomorrow at the Stanford Golf Course. Teams will tee-off at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
