Cougars Reach NCAA Qualifying Marks at Texas Relays and at Pelluer Invite

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Several Washington State competitors reached NCAA Regional Qualifying marks Friday at the 80th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium, and at the 36th Annual Pelluer Invitational at Woodward Field on the campus of Eastern Washington University.
On the track in Austin, Robert Williams ran a lifetime-best 110m hurdles time of 14.17 seconds which was also an improved NCAA RQ. He finished fifth in the prelims and is one of nine racers to advance to the Saturday final. Princess Joy Griffey ran a season-best and NCAA Regional Qualifying time 100m dash time of 11.72 seconds for 19th in the women's prelims. Jaycee Robertson ran the men's 100m dash in a time of 10.56 seconds which was 18th. The men's 4x100m relay team of Robertson, Williams, Brian Woods, and Justin Woods ran a time of 41.77 for 23rd in the prelims.
In field events, Matt Lamb and Drew Ulrick finished sixth and seventh in the men's discus with NCAA RQ marks. Lamb threw 192-6 (58.67m) and Ulrick threw a PR and improved NCAA RQ of 190-6 (58.06m). McKenzie Garberg threw the shot put an NCAA RQ mark of 47-6 1/2 (14.49m) for seventh in the women's B section and threw the discus an NCAA RQ mark of 157-2 (47.91m) for 10th. Garberg has better NCAA RQ marks in both the shot and the discus from earlier this season.
The Texas Relays heptathlon competition concludes Saturday, April 7, at Austin.
At the twilight meet at Cheney, WSU's La Shawnda Porter-Red was a double winner in the sprints, running the 100m dash in a season-best time of 12.07 seconds, and the 200m dash in a time 24.25. Jeanne Newman was fourth in the 200m dash with a season-best time of 25.71. Nicole McClendon was third in the 400m dash with a season-best time of 58.33.
Moreno Zapata won the men's triple jump with an NCAA RQ leap of 49-11w (15.22m). Catie Schuetzle and Sarah Burns finished one-two in the women's triple jump with Schuetzle landing the winning jump with a PR and NCAA RQ of 40-6w (12.34) while Burns was second at 38-10 1/2 (11.85m).
Rickey Moody won the men's long jump with an NCAA RQ of 24-2 1/4 (7.37m)
In the women's pole vault, Kendall Mays cleared a season-best 11-6 1/4 (3.51m) for fourth and Jessica Fuller cleared a season-best 11-0 1/4 (3.36m) for fifth. McKinnon Hanson placed second in the high jump with a height of 5-4 1/4 (1.63m).
Lorraine King won the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.95.
