April 7, 2007

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Even with the Sun Devils taking wins in the one and two singles spots, the ASU Men's Tennis team was unable to pull off the win Saturday afternoon as they fell 5-2 in LA against Pac-10 foe, the ninth-ranked USC Trojans. ASU is now 11-8 overall and 2-2 in Pac-10 play while USC rises to 18-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

The Trojans came out ready to play in doubles as they swept the Devils, with the 57th-ranked duo of Matt Brooklyn and Wes Miller being topped 8-4 by the 58th-ranked Dejan Cvetkovic and Gary Sacks.

The Sun Devils had something else to say in singles play though as Pac-10 Player of the Week Matt Brooklyn proved his worth again as he beat the 45th-ranked Jamil Al-Agba in straight sets in the No. 1 spot with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Teammate Juan Carlos Rebaza followed Brooklyn as he beat 44th-ranked Dejan Cvetkovic in a tough 6-4, 2-6, (10-8) win in the No. 2 spot.

The Sun Devils will continue Pac-10 action next weekend as well, staying on the road to face the Washington Huskies next Friday, April 13 in Seattle Washington at 1:30 p.m.
