Bruins Trounce Wildcats, 7-0

LOS ANGELES - The No. 10 UCLA men's tennis team posted its ninth shutout of the season on Saturday, downing the visiting Arizona Wildcats, 7-0 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins, who improve to 60-0 all time against the Wildcats, move their record to 15-3 overall and 4-0 in the Pac-10. With the loss, Arizona falls to 5-14 and 0-4 in the conference.
After claiming the doubles point by sweeping all three courts, the Bruins posted six consecutive singles victories, five of which in straight sets. Bruin senior Benjamin Kohlloeffel reached a career milestone on Saturday, as he tied Tobias Clemens (2001-04) for the school record in singles victories at the No. 1 position with 51. Kohlloeffel, who was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over 89th-ranked Claudio Christen, also registered his 117th career singles win, putting him just two behind the school record of 119, also set by Clemens.
Joining Kohlloeffel with wins on the top three courts were 38th-ranked Haythem Abid and 53rd-ranked Chris Surapol. Abid dispatched of Bruno Alcala, 6-2, 6-4, while Surapol downed Jason Labrosse, 6-2, 6-2. With the match already decided, UCLA's Mathieu Dehaine (court #4), Michael Look (court #5) and Jeremy Drean (court #6) were all victorious.
UCLA hosts San Diego State this Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. That match was originally scheduled for Jan. 30 but was postponed due to rain.
