Women's Golf Victorious At Peg Barnard Collegiate

Stanford, Calif. - Led by senior Lauren Todd's four-under par 67 today, the Stanford women's golf team won the 2007 Peg Barnard Collegiate with a final two-day score of four-over par 572 (287-285), after shooting a 285 this afternoon. The Cardinal claimed a three stroke victory over Denver, who came in second with a 576. Rounding out the top five were Oregon State (586), Hawaii (592) and Long Beach State (592).
San Francisco came in sixth (593), followed by Washington State (594), San Jose State (599), Fresno State (608), Portland State (620) and UC Davis (620).
Long Beach State's Kay Hoey broke the tournament two-round record with an eight-under par 134 to win individual medalist honors. The previous record was 136, held by San Jose State's Janice Moody (1997).
Stanford was led by Lauren Todd who placed second overall with a five-under par 137 (70-67). Freshman Catherina Wang tied for fourth with an even-par 142 (74-68) after carding a three-under 68 today. Teammate Mari Chun tied for ninth with a two-over par 144 (71-73) while Jennifer Tangtiphaiboontana tied for 23rd with a 150 (73-77). Cardinal Ki-Shui-Liao, competing as an individual, also tied for 23rd (75-75--150). Angela King (73-80--35) and Saana Rapakko (79-74--153) tied for 35th on the individual leaderboard with a 153. Senior Jenna Seki shot a 76 today.
Wang finished the tournament second in birdies with 11 over two days. Todd was right behind her in third with 10. As a team, Stanford led the field with 33 birdies over two rounds.
The Cardinal now prepare for the 2007 Pac-10 Women's Golf Championships, April 23-25, in Seattle, Washington.
