Diana Pickler Named Pac-10 Women's Track Athlete of Week
April 9, 2007
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Washington State's Diana Pickler, a senior from Sachse, Texas, was named the Pacific-10 Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for April 2-8. Pickler won the Texas Relays heptathlon with a school and Pac-10 record of 6,205 points last week in Austin.
Pickler broke the WSU school record in 100m hurdles for third straight week with a time of 13.28 seconds and set PRs in two running events: the 200m (NCAA Regional Qualifying 23.69w, which is sixth in WSU all-time records) and the 800m (2:19.08). She also set PRs in the high jump (NCAA RQ 1.84m/6-0 1/2 - third best in WSU all-time) and long jump (NCAA RQ 6.15m/20-2 1/4 - fourth best in WSU all-time). Pickler's score of 6,205 points was the fourth-best heptathlon total by a collegian in season, and also an 'A' Qualifier for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. She will have the chance to make the Olympic team when she competes at the Olympic Trials, which will be held June 2008 in Eugene, Ore.
PLEASE NOTE: The officials at the Texas Relays reviewed all of the winning marks from the meet which were record performances and revised Diana Pickler's 200m dash time from 23.70w to 23.69w, thus giving her 1011 points for that event, one more than previously announced. This brought her total to 6205 points instead of the previously announced 6204 points. Coach Rick Sloan was not apprised of this change until Monday, April 9, in Pullman.
