Cardinal Hosts Three Matches in

Stanford will face its biggest challenge of the season this week as they host 'The Stanford Challenge' against three of the top teams in the country ... The Cardinal is now 7-12 overall and 2-2 in the Pac-10 with five regular season matches remaining ... This week, Stanford will host defending NCAA champion Pepperdine, currently ranked 19th, UCLA, ranked 10th, and 8th ranked USC ... Stanford will host UOP on April 17 and California on April 21 to close out the regular season.

Freshman Richard Wire is currently ranked No. 74 in the nation in singles while the Cardinal's top doubles team of Matt Bruch and Blake Muller are currently ranked No. 27 ... Wire, who has an 8-4 record while playing No. 1 for the Cardinal, has won six of this last eight matches, including all three vs. nationally-ranked opponents ... Since February 18, Wire has gone 9-4 ... In doubles, Bruch and Muller won all four of their matches last week to improve their overall record to 9-2.
Sophomore All-American Matt Bruch returned to the singles lineup on April 7 at Washington after missing almost two months due to injury ... Freshman Kevin Kaiser won three of his four matches last week and has now won four of his last six ... Two of Stanford's wins last week came after David Ryan won the clinching match at No. 6 singles ... He beat Tommy Hicks of Santa Clara on April 4 to give Stanford a 4-3 win, then he provided the clinching match again two days later at Oregon as he beat Francisco Gallardo ... In Stanford's four matches last week, the Cardinal doubles teams went 10-2 ... Bruch and Muller went 4-0 while No. 2 Paul Morrissey and Richard Wire and No. 3 Kevin Kaiser and Eric McKean each went 3-1.
This Week's Opponents

While the Waves are 13-7 on the season, they have recorded impressive wins at No. 6 Notre Dame, vs. No. 13 Texas and No. 25 Florida State ... UCLA's only three losses have come against top-10 teams, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Baylor and No. 8 USC ... The Trojans are having a tremendous season at 18-1 ... Their only loss was at No. 1 Georgia.
