Cougars to Honor Seniors at UC Santa Barbara Match

This Week - The 41st ranked Washington State Cougars (13-10, 1-6 Pac-10) will honor their 2006-07 seniors during the UC Santa Barbara (9-7, 3-2 Big West) match, Saturday, April 14 at noon at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.

Great Toth! - Senior Amy Toth lettered four years for the WSU Cougars...Toth's freshman year saw her capture 13 wins playing mainly in the five slot...sophomore year, Toth increased to 22 victories and reached the final at the Pac-10 Championships in the Invitational bracket...Toth earned 23 victories her junior year, which placed her ninth on WSU's single season victory list...the back-to-back 20 win season was the third time a student-athlete has compiled 20 victories in two consecutive years...defeated two nationally-ranked opponents, No. 95 Lauren Jones of BYU and Arizona State's tandem Clarke/Pooler, nationally-ranked 43rd...led team in doubles play with 13 victories...currently, Toth is climbing up the charts on WSU's all time victories list...she has 74 career wins, which ties her with Narelle Hall for fifth place.

She's the van (de Ven) - Senior Marjolein van de Ven came to WSU after transferring from Technical University of Delft...van de Ven quickly adopted to the U.S. style of play after finishing her first year with a 24-16 record...the wins placed her fifth on WSU's single season victories list...van de Ven played five nationally-ranked opponents and defeated one, California's Christina Visico, who was No. 47...she teamed with Burduli late in the season and finished with a 10-2 record, which was good enough for third place on WSU's single season doubles winning percentage...already this season, van de Ven has earned 23 victories, which ties her for ninth on WSU's single season victories list...van de Ven became the fourth WSU student-athlete to join the 20 back-to-back club, previously reached by Toth during the 2004-06 seasons.

Series with the Gauchos - WSU holds a perfect 2-0 record against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos...WSU squeaked by the Gauchos in the first meeting, 5-4, during the 1996 season...WSU would show no mercy in the final game of the series in the 1997 season as the Cougars cruised past the Gauchos, 9-0...this season Santa Barbara is 9-7 and defeated Santa Clara, 6-1 in the season opener...WSU defeated Santa Clara, 6-1 during last week's match.

Double Trouble - Doubles tandem Marjolein van de Ven and Ekaterina Burduli captured their 11th victory of the season against Boise State's top doubles duo Baurn/Mackova, 8-4...WSU's top doubles team now has 21 career victories, which is good enough for sole possession of eighth place on WSU's all-time doubles victories.

Hart of the Matter - 'We're excited about our final home match this Saturday against Santa Barbara, they're a great coached team,' WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart said. 'The seniors, Amy and Marjolein, have done so much for our program we want to send them out on a high note.'
