Brittany Hill, Marisa Samaniego and Tess Schofield will travel to Maryland to compete at the Spring Diving National Championships beginning on Sunday, April 15 with the hopes of qualifying for future Grand Prix meets, the PanAm Games and the World University Games.
Qualifying takes place on Sunday and Monday 4/15-16. From there, sixteen women will advance on one meter and platform and fourteen will advance on three meter.
Samaniego will dive in the three meter qualifying event (Monday 12 PM EST). Schofield will dive in the platform qualifying event (Sunday 5 PM EST). Hill will dive in both the one and three meter qualifying events (Monday 12 PM and 5 PM EST). Samaniego is pre-qualified to the Women's one meter semifinal on Wednesday 4/18 due to her 6th-place finish at this year's NCAA Championships.
This meet will be used to determine teams for the Grand Prix meets in Fort Lauderdale in May and Spain/Italy in June. The meet will also be used to determine which athletes will be invited to the Pan Am Games selection camp to be held May 30-June 3. Finally, the team for the World University Games will be selected based on the results from these Spring Championships. The WUG will take place in Bangkok, Thailand August 13-18, 2007.
'While it has taken some time for our group to recover from an outstanding NCAA season, I am looking forward to watching these three kids represent our program at US Diving's Spring Championship. Marisa and Tess are both very close to regaining their All-American form and I am excited about the opportunities that may be presented to us during the next ten days.'
The main events will take place April 18-22. Women's one meter semifinal will take place on Wednesday, April 18 (finals that evening). Women's ten meter semifinal will take place Thursday, April 19 (finals, Saturday 4/21). Finally, Women's three meter semifinal will take place Friday, April 20th (finals, Sunday 4/22).
'We are going to a new facility, with a great host club. I am excited to get back east and see what our kids do against the best in the country. This is a great week for diving, and I am very happy to be part of it.'
