No. 10 Arizona State Defeats Cal, 8-0

Tempe - Katie Burkhart tossed a one-hit shutout to help lift the No. 10-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils to an 8-0 win (in five innings) over the visiting California Golden Bears in Pac-10 action in Farrington Stadium on Friday night.

Cal (25-21, 2-5 Pac-10) continues league play on the road in Tucson for a pair of games versus the fourth-ranked Wildcats of Arizona, Apr. 14-15.

ASU scored eight runs on seven hits, including a four-run first inning. Ashley Muenz provided the clutch hit in the inning with a three-run home run off of Cal starter, Lauren Frankiewicz, putting the Sun Devils up 4-0.

ASU added a pair of runs in the second inning and two more in the fourth to take the commanding 8-0 lead.

Burkhart pitched a scoreless fifth to earn the victory in the circle. Burkhart struck out 12 Cal batters. Gina Leomiti had the lone hit for the Bears.
