CORVALLIS, Ore. - The UCLA softball team fell to 26-11 (2-4 Pac-10) on Friday afternoon in Corvallis, Ore., as the Bruins lost to Oregon State (32-12, 4-2 Pac-10) by a score of 7-0. The Bruins managed four hits but had two defensive errors on the day, leading to a pair of early unearned runs.
UCLA started the game hot, opening with a double from Krista Colburn and a seeing-eye single through the left side by Jaisa Creps, giving the Bruins runners on the corners with no outs. Unfortunately, the Bruins were unable to advance the pair of runners and went to the bottom half of the first inning with no score.
The Beavers plated an unearned run in the bottom of the first as Dani Chisholm reached on a K-E2, moved to third on a single by Cambria Miranda and came home on a Stefanie Ewing ground out to make the score 1-0.
Two more runs came across in the second inning on an RBI by Mia Longfellow and Natalie Johnson scored on a passed ball to make the score 3-0. A fourth run scored in the third inning as DeAnn Young posted a two-out single, stole second and came home on a Sherina Galvan single to make the score 4-0 in OSU's favor.
The Beavers pushed across three additional runs on three more hits in the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead and OSU pitcher Brianne McGowan dominated, scattering four hits and striking out four, including setting a new Oregon State career strikeout record in the third inning of play.
UCLA returns to action on Saturday and Sunday with 1 pm games at Oregon's Howe Field in Eugene, Ore.
