Bears Post 6 Regional Qualifiers at Brutus Hamilton Invitational

April 14, 2007

BERKELEY - California posted six NCAA regional-qualifying marks or times despite a wet day on Saturday in the finale of the two-day Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Edwards Stadium.

Morning rain pushed the start time back a couple of hours, though the sun finally peeked out from behind the clouds by the end of the meet.

Golden Bears senior Kurt Seefeld set a regional-qualifying and season-best discus throw of 171-6 (52.27 meters) to take third in the men's event.

Senior teammate Kelechi Anyanwu collected regional qualifiers to win the women's discus (167-7, 51.09 meters) and shot put (47-6.25, 14.48). Bears sophomore Missy Faubus took second in both events with a regional-qualifying 150-4 (45.82) in the discus and a 46-10.25 (14.28) in the shot.

Cal junior Alysia Johnson ran a regional-qualifying and season-best 54.43 to win the women's 400-meter dash. This was Johnson's first 400 of the outdoor season. Sophomore teammate Evelyn Smith was second in her Cal lifetime-best 56.74 in her first 400 of the outdoor season.

Bears junior Thomas Mack had the best collegiate time in the men's 110-meter hurdles, with a regional-qualifying 14.10 to take second overall. Former Bear Tim Bogdanof won the race in 14.09. Current sophomore Jordan Paul was third in 14.33.

Cal next competes at the UCSD Triton Invitational next Friday and Saturday, April 20-21, in San Diego.
