Madison Leads Cougars in U.S. Intercollegiate

STANFORD, Calif. - After playing two rounds in the wind and rain the Washington State Men's Golf Team rounded out the first day of play at the U.S. Intercollegiate, played on the par-70, 6,742 yard Stanford Golf Course, with a team score of 581 and in a tie for eighth place.

Redshirt senior Jordan Madison led the way for the Cougars with a first round score of 70, followed by a second round total of 74. Madison is currently in a tie for 26th with a score of 144. Two shots behind Madison is senior Chris Collins. Beginning the first round with a 76, Collins improved drastically in the second round by shooting a 70. Currently in a tie for 32nd, Collins completed with a first day score of 146.

'Madison and Collins both played solid today,' said Head Golf Coach Walt Williams. 'Collins really stepped up and played well in the afternoon round.'

Joining Collins in the 32nd spot is freshman Nick Grigsby. With consecutive scores of 73, Grigsby finished the first day with a 146 score. Two strokes away from Grigsby is freshman Austin Hurt, who shot a 71 and a 77 respectively for a first day score of 148.Rounding out the Cougar lineup in freshman Kevin Tucker, who finished with a score of 154.

'We played pretty good today,' Williams said. 'We're starting to play more like we want, so there is definitely some improvement.'

The men will play the third round of the U.S. Intercollegiate Sunday, April 14, with an official tee time of 7 a.m.
