No. 4 Wildcats Tame Golden Bears, 6-4

Tuscon - Chelsie Mesa had three RBI and Caitlin Lowe scored two runs to help lead the No. 4-ranked Arizona Wildcats to a 6-4 win over the California Golden Bears on Saturday night.
Cal (25-22, 2-6 Pac-10) squares off against Arizona (30-8, 6-1 Pac-10) tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
Cal unlocked a scoreless tie in the top of the third with a pair of runs to take an early lead. Meyer led off the inning with a double down the left field line off of Arizona starter Taryne Mowatt. Taylor Kelly then reached safely on a bunt single, which allowed Meyer to advance to third. Shannon Houston was inserted as a pinch runner for Kelly, and stole second base. Meyer would then score on wild pitch, putting the Bears up, 1-0. Three batters later, Schallig connected for a double to center field to plate Sutton, who reached on a fielder's choice, boosting the Cal lead to 2-0.
Arizona cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning as Mesa's double to right field plated Lowe. The Wildcats added three more runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Laine Roth drew a lead off walk and eventually scored on Lowe's RBI single. Mesa's double to left field scored two more runs for Arizona.
The Wildcats generated two more runs in the fifth, before Cal produced two runs in the top of the sixth. Meyer's single to right field scored Morgan Siegel, who pinch ran for Gina Leomiti. Two batters later with the bases loaded, Sutton drew a walk which allowed Carly Winger to score, trimming the Arizona lead to 6-4. Winger pinch ran for Vickers, who hit an infield single. Mowatt however got pinch hitter Brittany LaRosa to strikeout with the bases loaded, ending the scoring threat.
Mowatt pitched a scoreless seventh to earn her 23rd win in the circle. Lauren Frankiewicz suffered the loss for Cal to fall to 12-11 on the season. Frankiewicz allowed six runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in six innings.
