Softball Scorches 15 hits in Win at Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. - The Bruin bats pounded out 15 hits and 13 runs as UCLA improved to 27-11 (3-4 Pac-10) on Saturday afternoon with a 13-3 victory at Oregon (37-7, 3-4 Pac-10). Seven of UCLA's starters had at least one hit on the day and five players posted multi-hit days. The Bruins had just two extra-base hits on the day, a triple from Lisa Dodd and a home run by Jodie Legaspi.
UCLA started fast, with the first three batters reaching base in the top of the first inning. Krista Colburn led off with a single down the right field line, followed by walks to Jaisa Creps and Lisa Dodd to load the bases. Megan Langenfeld would draw a one-out RBI walk to put the Bruins on the board, 1-0. Kaila Shull then followed with a two-RBI single to right, plating Creps and Dodd to make the score 3-0 and chase Oregon starting pitcher Melissa Rice from the game.
The offensive onslaught continued in the top of the second inning as Tara Henry led off with a slap-hit single, stole second base and scored on a single from Colburn. Dodd followed with her first triple of the season, scoring Colburn to give UCLA a 5-0 lead after two at-bats.
Nina Bryant followed with a home run to lead off the bottom of the second inning for Oregon. Pac-10 home run leader Ann Marie Topps followed with a two-run shot of her own in the fourth inning, trimming the Bruin lead to two runs at 5-3.
In the fifth, the Bruins added two more runs on a Dodd walk, Legaspi single, and a Langenfeld single that bounced off of Oregon 3B Joanna Gail and went to the fence, allowing Dodd to score. A Kaila Shull single plated Legaspi, making the score 7-3.
Dodd would lead off the sixth inning with a single up the middle and came around to score on the eighth home run of the season from Legaspi, making the score 9-3 in UCLA's favor.
A four-run seventh followed for the Bruins. Kaila Shull led off with a single, followed by a walk from Julie Burney. Tara Henry loaded the bases with an infield single, bringing up Krista Colburn who posted an RBI single, scoring Shull. A single from Creps brought home Burney and Henry, making the score 12-3 in UCLA's favor. The final Bruin run of the day scored on a ground-out by Dodd, bringing the score to 13-3.
Anjelica Selden got the win for UCLA, allowing just three hits while striking out nine for her 15th victory of the season.
The Bruins and Ducks complete the weekend schedule with a 1 pm first pitch at Howe Field in Eugene, Ore., on Sunday afternoon.
