Trojans Begin Action at the Mt. Sac Relays

The performance of Natalia Kovtun highlighted the Trojans' action in the first day of full competition at the 49th Mt. Sac Relays held in Walnut, Calif. on April 13.
Kovtun, a sophomore transfer from Donetsk University in the Ukraine, ran her first steeplechase as a Trojan and posted a time of 11:14.08, good for fourth all-time on USC's 3000m steeplechase list. Kovtun placed ninth in the 3000m steeplechase OD University/Open race.
Fellow Donetsk University transfer sophomore Oksana Milokumova also had a good day on the track, running a season-best 4:32.40 in 1500m race.
Three Trojans ran in the men's 400m University/Open race, with senior DaSean Cunningham finishing seventh with a time of 48.19, freshman Jason Price placing 11th with a time of 48.70 and sophomore Russell L. Ellis taking 17th with a new PR of 50.13.
Other highlights on the first day included junior Daniel Corrigan clearing a season-best 15-7 3/4 (4.77m) to finish third in the men's University/Open pole vault competition. Teammates junior Graham Bockmiller cleared a season best 15-1 3/4 (4.62) and freshman Charles Fasi established a new PR by clearing the same height.
Among the Trojan student-athletes expected to compete today (April 14) include Julia Rozenfeld and Alexandria Williams in the women's hammer throw, Chun Mei Nickles in the women's pole vault, Donovan Lim in the men's high jump, Marylin Anene in the women's high jump, Brandon Estrada in the men's pole vault, and Mike Curiel, Jekabs Sliede, Brian Wilhelm and Noah Bryant in the men's hammer throw.
Former Trojan NCAA champion Jesse Williams will be competing in the long jump competition today.
