Huskies Down Arizona 6-1 on Senior Day

SEATTLE - Alex Slovic continued his march up the Husky tennis record books as No. 34 Washington (15-6, 3-3 Pac-10) beat visiting Arizona, 6-1 on Sunday at Bill Quillian Tennis Courts. Slovic, one of three seniors playing at home for the last time in their careers, won both his doubles and singles matches against the Wildcats (5-16, 0-6).

Slovic and Daniel Chu won their Husky record 82nd career doubles match 8-2 at No. 1 and Slovic cruised past 83rd-ranked Claudio Christen in singles. Slovic's victory over Christen was the 92nd of his career moving him into sole possession of fourth all-time in UW history. He also has a combined wins total of 174, one behind second in school history and four behind a tie with Matt Hamlin for the all-time lead.

Slovic wasn't the only Husky that had a perfect day. Junior Andy Kuharszky and freshman Derek Drabble combined to clinch the doubles point with an 8-2 win at No. 3 and each won straight-set singles matches.Kuharszky improved to 22-7 on the season, including a perfect 14-0 at home, with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jason Labrosse at No. 3. Drabble won 6-4, 6-4 over Peter Zimmer at No. 4 to run his record to 12-10 on the season.

Sophomore Patrik Fischer and senior Michael Ricks were the lone Husky duo to lose in doubles, dropping a 8-5 decision to Bruno Alcala and Ravid Hezi, but each responded with singles victories. Fischer dropped just two games to Hezi at No. 4 (6-2, 6-0) and improved to 16-9 on the season. Ricks wrapped up his home career with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex Labrosse. It was the 40th win of his Husky career and 14th this season.

Daniel Chu lost a tough match in his final home appearance. He won the first set 6-2 over Alcala at No. 2, but dropped the second set in a 9-7 tie breaker. Alcala secured the only point for the Wildcats by winning 10-7 in a third-set super tie breaker. Chu's record fell to 15-9 on the season and leaves him stuck at 69 career singles wins. His doubles win did move him into a tie for fifth on the Huskies' all-time combined wins list at 153 with Chet Crile.

The Huskies will wrap up their regular season next Saturday in Eugene with a Pac-10 match up against Oregon at 1 p.m.
