USC Edged By UCLA In Tri-Match With ASU

The No. 11 UCLA women's golf team finished with 89 points, No. 7 USC had 62 and No. 1 ASU had 38 in a tri-match at the Trump National G.C. in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., on Saturday (April 14).

The format was a modified stableford, with six players counting six. Additionally, USC and Arizona State featured seventh and eighth players, who scored against each other in match play format.

The point system awarded six points for an eagle, three for a birdie, one for a par, minus one for a bogey and minus two for a double bogey or worse.

USC was led by Junior Dewi Claire Schreefel who had a team-high 17 points. Senior Catalina Marin had 16, freshman Caroline Kim had 11, senior Veronica Felibert had seven, junior Paola Moreno had six and freshman Belen Mozo had five.

UCLA was led by Tiffany Joh (25), who was the individual champion. The Sun Devils were paced by Anna Nordqvist's 21.

In match play action, Arizona State's Lisa Kelo defeated USC's Stephanie Hickerson, 2 up, while USC's Shelcie Takenouchi downed Arizona State's Brooke Todare 1 up after 20 holes.

The one-day event served as the final tune-up before the 2007 Pac-10 Championships, April 23-25, at the Broadmoor C.C. in Seattle, Wash.
