WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA senior Benjamin Kohlloeffel has been named the Pac-10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week for Apr. 9-Apr. 15, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Kohlloeffel, the nation's fourth-ranked singles player, recorded three singles wins last week to become UCLA's career singles wins leader with 120 wins (records kept since 1990). Kohlloeffel surpassed Tobias Clemens' mark of 119 victories set between 2001-04. UCLA meanwhile was 3-0 on the week and remained a perfect 6-0 in Pac-10 play.

Kohlloeffel began his week on Wedesday by dropping 30th-ranked Markus Dickhardt of San Diego State, 6-4, 6-0, and the Bruins cruised to a 7-0 sweep.

Making the trip up to the Bay Area, UCLA earned a 5-2 win over Stanford and Kohlloeffel led the way, defeating 2006 Pac-10 Champion Matt Bruch, 7-6 (3), 6-3 at No. 1 singles.

The next day, Kohlloeffel earned his record-setting victory but was stretched to three sets by Cal's 27th-ranked Pierre Mouillon. Kohlloeffel dominated the first set, 6-1, before surrendering the second set in a tiebreak. UCLA's ace resumed control in the third, however, winning 6-2. The Bruins blanked the Bears, 7-0.

Kohlloeffel and partner Philipp Gruendler, ranked 12th in doubles, also earned two wins on the week at No. 1 doubles, improving to 22-1 on the year.

In just three years, Kohlloeffel has amassed an incredible record of 120-15. Highlights include winning the 2006 NCAA Championship and the 2005 and 2006 ITA National Indoor Championship. He is 22-3 this season and 20-1 in dual match play.

UCLA (6-0 Pac-10, 18-3) will play for the Pac-10 title next weekend against its L.A. rival USC. The Trojans are also 6-0 in Conference. The Bruins will have home court advantage for Friday's match, which gets underway at 1:30 p.m.

This is Kohlloeffel's sixth Pac-10 Player of the Week honor as a singles player and fourth this season. He has also won once as a doubles team with Gruendler. It is the seventh weekly honor for UCLA.
