WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Pacific-10 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the week of April 9-15:
Men's Track Athlete of the Week: DOMENIK PETERSON, ASU (Sr., Jefferson City, Mo.). Peterson turned in two of the top times in the nation so far this season as he clocked in at 20.70 in the 200m dash and 45.99 in the 400m dash. His 200m time is currently the fifth-fastest in the NCAA while his quarter time is ranked fourth. Peterson also ran the second leg of the 4x100m relay, helping the quartet to a time of 39.62, the sixth-fastest in the NCAA this year.
Men's Field Athlete of the Week: RYAN BRANDEL, ORE (Sr., Milwaukie, Ore.). In the Mt. SAC Relays, Brandel climbed to third all-time for Oregon and led collegians in the invitational javelin section (second overall, 238-0, 72.54m), and now trails only a pair of former Duck NCAA champions - John Stiegeler (252-10, 2001) and Art Skipper (251-8, 1992) - on the school's top-10 list. Before this weekend in '07, only one other collegian - North Carolina senior Justin Ryncavage - had thrown farther (240-6) than the second-year Duck.
Women's Track Athlete of the Week: LATOSHA WALLACE, ASU (Sr., Baltimore, Md.). Wallace clocked a time of 56.75 in the 400m hurdles to move into third on the all-time Arizona State list while also climbing to No. 2 on both the college and world lists so far this season. Wallace also had a hand in helping the 4x400m relay team run its fastest time of the season by anchoring the squad to a time of 3:34.42.
Women's Field Athlete of the Week: SARAH STEVENS, ASU (So., Ft. Collins, Colo.). Stevens had an impressive weekend at the Sun Angel Track Classic in Tempe as she won two events and took second in another.
