WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA sophomore infielder and catcher Cody Decker has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week and ARIZONA sophomore right-handed pitcher Preston Guilmet has been named Pitcher of the Week for April 10-16, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Decker, of Santa Monica, Calif., continued his torrid hitting, recording a .444 average (8-for-18) in four games last week with three home runs and 11 RBI. In UCLA's first three-game sweep of crosstown rival USC since 1987, Decker blasted one home run in each game and finished the weekend with a .538 average (7-for-13), totaling three runs and 10 RBI. Saturday afternoon, Decker had the game-winning hit and posted a 3-for-4 effort with two RBI and one run. Sunday afternoon, the sophomore blasted a two-out grand slam to straight-away center, giving UCLA an 11-6 cushion in the eighth inning. Decker finished Sunday's victory having tied his career high for RBI with six. Friday evening, the slugger's two-run home run in the top of the first handed the Bruins a 2-0 lead, one they would not relinquish.

Guilmet, of Citrus Heights, Calif., dominated Stanford in a complete game performance in Arizona's 8-1 win in its Pac-10 series-opener. The sophomore ace, who has gone nine innings in each of his last four starts, tallied a career-high 15 strikeouts in the contest and improved to 7-0 on the season while lowering his Pac-10-best ERA to 1.58 with his third complete game win of the season. He allowed just the one run, on a solo homer in the second, and five hits, while walking only one. Guilmet struck out the side in four of his nine innings of work to help Arizona improve to 10-0 in games he has started this season. In his last five starts, Guilmet is 4-0 with a0.82 ERA in44 innings of work. He has punched out 54 batters, walked only 12 and opponents are batting just .175 against him during this stretch.
