WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - WASHINGTON senior Dena Tyson has been named the Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week for Apr. 10-16, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

The Husky first baseman flexed her muscles at the plate last week, slugging a home run in every game of Washington's three-game set against the Oregon schools. Washington downed the Ducks on Friday, then split two games at Oregon State on Saturday and Sunday. UW also earned a non-conference win vs. Portland State on Thursday to go 3-1 for the week.

Against No. 10/11 Oregon on Friday, Tyson led the UW line-up with three hits in four at-bats, including her 10th home run of the year as Washington came away with a 7-2 win.

Tyson made the difference again on Saturday vs. the 16th-ranked Beavers. She hit an RBI-single in the fourth inning to give UW a 2-0 lead, then after OSU cut the lead to one, Tyson homered to lead off the seventh inning to give the Huskies some insurance and they held on for the 3-1 win.

In Sunday's finale, Tyson again went 3-for-4 at the plate with her third home run in as many days. Tyson's fifth inning two-run blast, her 12th of the year, put the Huskies ahead, 4-1, but Oregon State rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to escape with a 5-4 win.

For the week, Tyson hit .750 (9-of-12) with four runs, a double, three home runs and seven RBI. The senior slugged 1.583 with an on-base percentage of .733. Tyson has been the league's best hitter in Pac-10 play, leading the Conference in average (.609, 14-for-23), slugging percentage (1.130), OBP (.679), and home runs with four. For the season Tyson is hitting .472, third-best in the Pac-10 and more than 200 points above her career .245 batting average.

Washington (27-11, 4-4 Pac-10) sits tied for fourth in the league and moved up to 13th in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball Top-25. The Huskies travel to the Bay Area this weekend to take on California and Stanford.

This is the first Player of the Week honor for Tyson, and the 58th all-time Player/Pitcher of the Week award for Washington.
