No. 13 Cal faces No. 17 Stanford in the Big Row

This Week: The No. 13 California Golden Bears face No. 17 Stanford this weekend at Redwood Shores, Calif.. Cal will be facing the Cardinal for the second time this year. The Cardinal faced the Bears at this year's San Diego Crew Classic, where Cal finished in second place, ahead of Stanford.
Last year at the Big Row: In last year's Big Row, the Bears' varsity eight, then ranked No. 2, swept then-No. 16 Stanford in six levels of competition. The Cal varsity eight finished 14 seconds ahead of the Cardinal. In the day's closest race, the Bears' varsity four A defeated the Cardinal by eight seconds.
History of the Big Row: The women's Big Row began in 1976 and Cal, which won the last four races, leads the all-time series, 21-10. The Bears have dominated the series in stretches, winning five in a row from 1997-02, and four straight from 1991-94. Stanford posted a three-year winning streak from 1982-84. Since Dave O'Neill became head coach of the Cal women's crew team in 1999 the Bears have only lost once to Stanford in a regular-season meeting.
Did You Know? The Cardinal's women's crew team has never defeated California in four consecutive dual races. Only once have the Bears lost three consecutive times to Stanford (1982-1984).
Windermere Crew Classic Recap (April 14 - 15, 2007): The California varsity eight lost its first race of the weekend, against Notre Dame, by more than five seconds. In Saturday's second race, Louisville defeated Cal by nearly nine seconds. The varsity eight closed out its weekend on a high note, defeating Tennessee by three seconds. The Cal varsity four and JV eight both went undefeated over the weekend, finishing ahead of Notre Dame, Louisville and Tennessee.
Upcoming Races: The Huskies will host Cal on Saturday, April 28, at Montlake Cut in Seattle. The Bears have defeated Washington the past three years, but the Huskies have beaten Cal 22 of the 32 times the two teams have faced each other.
