Cal Travels to Pac-10 Championships

BERKELEY, Calif. - CAL COMPETES AT PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS: California, which has finished in the top five in the Pac-10 for five straight seasons, competes at the Pac-10 Championships Monday-Wednesday, April 23-25, at the Broadmoor Golf Club in Seattle, Wash. The three-day tournament takes place on the par-72, 6,196-yard Broadmoor course located just over a mile from the Washington campus. Eighteen holes will be played each day beginning at 9 a.m. PT on Monday and Tuesday and 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

THE FIELD: All 10 Pac-10 schools field a women's golf team. Arizona State received the No. 1 seed calculated by the Pac-10 using the average of the Sagarin and Golfstat national women's golf rankings. The seeds determine the order of play for the first round of competition. USC is the No. 2 seed, followed by No. 3 UCLA, No. 4 Stanford, No. 5 Arizona, No. 6 Washington State, No. 7 California, No. 8 Oregon, No. 9 Washington and No. 10 Washington State. Team seeds for subsequent rounds are determined by the prevous round's results. Five Pac-10 teams are ranked in the top 15, according to the latest Golfweek rankings - No. 1 ASU, No. 6 USC, No. 8 Stanford, No. 11 UCLA and No. 15 Arizona.

BEARS' LINEUP: Cal features a young lineup - two sophomores and three freshmen - as the Bears have done for most of the spring. Senior Mika Takayama, who has competed in the last two NCAA Championships, has missed the entire spring schedule with a back injury.

PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY: Cal has finished in the top five six times at the Pac-10 Championships, including the last five years. The Bears won the 2003 Pac-10 team crown behind Vikki Laing's individual title. UCLA has won the conference championship the last three seasons. In 2006, Cal placed fourth at the Pac-10 Championships with a 54-hole score of 896, and Sophia Sheridan tied for third at even-par 216 to lead the Bears. Allison Goodman tied for 19th (227), and Shannon Yocum took 45th (243) in ther first Pac-10 Championships.

BYU DIXIE CLASSIC RECAP: Cal placed 11th at the BYU Dixie Classic April 3-4 in its final preparation for the Pac-10 Championships. The Bears fired a team score of 934. BYU won the team title at 14-over 878. Allison Goodman tied for 16th (226) to lead Cal for the sixth time this season.

GOODMAN LEADS CAL SIX TIMES THIS SEASON: Allison Goodman has led Cal in six tournaments this season, including a stretch of five straight events. Goodman's best collegiate showing was a tie for third at the Spartan Invitational. She finished the 54-hole event at four-over 220. As a freshman, the San Diego product led Cal only once, tying for sixth at the NCAA East Regional. The season began with freshman Christina Frick topping the Bears at the Ram Fall Classic (T13th), and senior Danielle Nash pacing the team at the Golf Daytona Beach Fall Preview (T40th). Shannon Yocum topped the Bears (T48th) at the PING/ASU Invitational this spring.
