Young 13th on 1m-Board Semi at USA Diving Nationals
April 20, 2007
BOYDS, Md. - California freshman diver Samantha Young took 13th place on the one-meter springboard in Wednesday's semifinal round in the 2007 Speedo USA Diving Spring National Championships held at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center. Young did not reach the final, which took the top 12 divers from the semifinal.
'It was really amazing to dive with those girls at that level,' Young said. 'I was proud of the fact that I advanced from the prelim and even improved in the semis. I was kind of disappointed because I was one spot out of making the finals, but at the same time I was proud. That was kind of hard. But I went and watched finals, and I was proud of myself for getting that far.'
Young had taken 10th place on the one-meter board in Monday's preliminary round with a score of 199.85 to qualify. The Shoreline, Wash., product who was named the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year last week, also placed 30th on the three-meter board prelim with a 162.25.
