CUTLINE: Lisa Dodd went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a three-run home run.
BERKELEY, Calif. - UCLA connected on 13 hits and scored 11 runs on Saturday afternoon at Cal's Levine-Fricke Field as the Bruins defeated the Golden Bears, 11-0 in five innings of play. Senior 2B Lisa Dodd went 3-for-3 on the day with three runs scored and four RBI, including a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning.
The Bruins got on the board first, putting together a two-run inning in the third. Lisa Dodd led off with a walk, prompting a pitching change for the Golden Bears. Megan Langenfeld drew a one out walk before both runners advanced on a Kaila Shull strikeout/wild pitch. Whitney Holum then dropped a bloop double into shallow centerfield, allowing both runners to score as UCLA took a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth, UCLA added a pair of runs on a double by Jaisa Creps, who scored on a Lisa Dodd single. After Jodie Legaspi singled to give the Bruins two on, Langenfeld connected on a double to right, giving the Bruins a 4-0 lead.
UCLA's offense exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning, capitalizing on six hits, including home runs from Dodd and Langenfeld, and two Cal errors to take an 11-0 lead after four an a half innings.
Selden completed the two-hit shutout facing four batters in the bottom of the fifth inning, improving to 16-7 on the season. Selden struck out five in the win.
The Bruins and Golden Bears return to Levine-Fricke Field for a 1 pm game on Sunday.
