SEATTLE -- Jason Erickson and Nick Hagadone combined on a three-hit shutout as the Washington baseball team avoided a series sweep with 6-0 win over USC Sunday at Husky Ballpark.
Erickson, a sophomore righty, threw four and two-thirds, holding the Trojans scoreless on three hits and a walk. Hagadone entered the game with two outs and two on in the fifth and and threw four and two-thirds of no-hit relief to finish the game and improve his record to 5-1.
The Huskies improved to 20-18 on the season and evened their Pac-10 record at 6-6. The Trojans dropped to 21-20 and 4-8 in conference play.
After three and a half scoreless innings, Washington got on the board in the fourth. After an infield single from Michael Burgher and a double from Matt Hague put runners at second and third with no outs, Ty Rasmussen hit a grounder to short to score Burgher, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead, their first of the weekend.
In the fifth, the Huskies rallied as six straight batters reached base with two outs. With no runners on base, Brian Pearl and Doug Cherry reached on back-to-back singles. After the runners moved up on stolen bases, Burgher belted a double to left field, driving in a pair of runs. After Hague walked, Rasmussen singled to left, scoring Burgher to make it a 4-0 Husky lead.
Senior Curt Rindal followed the Rasmussen hit with a double to left-center, driving in one more and ending USC starter Anthony Vasquez's day.
The Huskies added a sixth run in the seventh on an RBI groundout from freshman DH Joey Lind.
Vazquez (2-6) took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits over four and two-thirds innings.
Burgher went 3-for-4 with two RBI, three runs and a stolen base. Freshman third baseman Aaron Russell added two hits for the Huskies.
