Bruins Third after First Round at Women's Pac-10 Championships

Ninth-ranked UCLA was in third place after the first day of competition in the 21st Pac-10 Women's Golf Championships, hosted by the University of Washington at The Broadmoor Golf Club.

The Bruins posted a team score of 305 (+17) and trailed first-place Arizona State (297, +9) by eight shots. USC was second at 303 (+15). Arizona and Stanford were tied for fourth at 309 (+21). Washington and California posted scores of 313 (+25) and were tied for sixth place. In eighth place was Washington State at 317 (+29), followed by Oregon at 324 (+36) and Oregon State at 328 (+40).

Individually, sophomore Tiffany Joh and Sydnee Michaels were tied for eighth place at two-over par 74. Joh had three bogeys, a double bogey and three birdies on her card; Michaels had six bogeys and four birdies on hers. Both players trail Arizona State's Anna Nordqvist by six shots for the first round lead.

Sophomore Maiya Tanaka, who eagled the par 5 sixth hole, posted a 78 (+6) and was tied for 17th. Senior Hannah Jun and sophomore Ryann O'Toole were tied for 23rd after carding scores of 79 (+7).
