No. 15 Cal State Fullerton Holds Off USC, 3-1

April 24, 2007

LOS ANGELES - Bryan Harris recorded the final two outs with the tying run at second on Tuesday as the No. 15 Cal State Fullerton Titans defeated the USC Trojans, 3-1, in a nonconference game at Dedeaux Field. Harris earned his first save of the season as the Titans won for the eighth straight time.

Cal State Fullerton is now 27-16 overall while USC is 21-21 on the season.

Matt Wallach hit a solo home run in the second to give CSF the 1-0 lead. The Titans added two runs in the fourth on an RBI bunt single by Dustin Garneau and an RBI single from Corey Jones.

Trojan freshman shortstop Grant Green (Anaheim Hills/Canyon HS) set a school season record with his ninth triple, lacing a three-bagger in the first. Freshman Robert Stock (Westlake Village/Agoura HS) threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief for the Trojans, allowing one hit with a walk and three strikeouts. Matt Cusick went 3-for-4 at the plate as well.

Green led off the USC ninth with a single and stole second. He scored on Lucas Duda's RBI single. After J.J. Owen was hit by a pitch, an Anthony Vasquez sacrifice moved runners to second and third. Harris followed by getting Stock to pop up and inducing a game-ending groundout from Hector Estrella.

USC hosts Washington State in a Pac-10 Conference series this weekend (April 27-29). Friday's game starts at 7 p.m. with a 1:30 p.m. start on Saturday and noon start on Sunday. All three games will be broadcast live on usctrojans.com.
