WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - WASHINGTON STATE sophomore designated hitter Travis Coulter has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while the Cougars' sophomore left-handed pitcher Ross Humes has been named Pitcher of the Week for April 17-23, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Coulter, of Kennewick, Wash., hit .545, going 6-for-11 with two runs scored, three doubles, a triple and an RBI last weekend, leading the Cougars to a pair of wins over No. 12 Arizona. In Sunday's series-clinching victory over the Wildcats, Coulter tied a school record by hitting three doubles, all coming in his first three at-bats. Coulter finished the game going 3-for-3 with a walk, RBI and two runs scored. Earlier in the week, Coulter went 2-for-5 in a 7-4 win at Gonzaga then went 1-for-3 with a triple in the series-opener against Arizona.

Humes, of Federal Way, Wash., was 1-0 with two saves in three appearances. Humes opened the week by working 2 1/3 innings of scoring relief in a 7-4 win at Gonzaga, picking up his sixth save of the season. He allowed just two singles, no walks, while striking out one. In WSU's 4-3 win over Arizona Saturday, Humes picked up his seventh save in seven opportunities, moving him into a tie for fourth on WSU's single-season list. The sophomore struck out three and did not walk a batter while allowing two hits in just 1 2/3 innings. In Sunday's win over the Wildcats, Humes came in with a man on third and two outs in the eighth, but got out of the Cougars out of the jam before returning in the ninth where he retired three straight batters to pick up his third win of the season. For the week, Humes was 1-0 with two saves with an 1.69 ERA in 5 1/3 innings pitched with six strikeouts, no walks and a batting average against of .222.

The Player of the Week honor is the first of Coulter's career, while it is the 60th such honor for Washington State. The Pitcher of the Week honor is also the first for Humes and marks the 28th selection all-time for the Cougars. This marks the second time this season that a single school swept the Player and Pitcher of the Week honors (March 20 - Kiel Roling and Brian Flores, Arizona State). As for the Cougars, the last time they earned both weekly honors was April 17, 1995 when Mike Kinkade was named Player of the Week and Kyle Kawabata garnered the Pitcher of the Week honor.
