Cal Men's Golf Finishes in Ninth Place at Pac-10 Championship

EUGENE, Ore. - Playing in one the top conference championship fields in the nation, the California men's golf team slipped to ninth place after the final round of action at the Pac-10 Championships on Wednesday at Eugene Country Club. Junior Michael Jensen was the Golden Bears' top finisher in the tournament, while senior Michael Wilson recorded Wednesday's top round with a two-under 70.

USC captured the team title with a dominant performance, recording a scorching score of 1389, 51 shots below par. The Trojans had the top three rounds of the tournament at 342, 344 and 345, the only team to shoot better than 353 all week. UCLA had a strong effort as well, taking second place with a 1425 (-15). Arizona State (1433, -7), Stanford (1436, -4) and Washington (1453, +13) rounded out the top five.

Michael Jensen, who had a team-best 68 in the second round, logged a three-over 75 in Wednesday's final round to finish at 291 overall (+3), tied for 28th place. Freshman Chris Jensen, Michael's younger brother, also tallied a 75 on Wednesday, as he finished tied for 31st place with a 293 (+5).

Freshman Evan Derian closed the tourney with a 75 on Wednesday to finish at 295 (+7), while junior Brandon Beck logged an overall 297 (+9) after shooting his third 73 of the week on Wednesday.

Andrey Mindirgasov, the third freshman in the lineup for the young Golden Bears, posted Cal's fourth 75 of the day on Wednesday to finish at 298 (+10). Wilson, meanwhile, paced the Bears in the final round with a minus-two 70, despite a pair of double bogeys. The lone senior on the roster, Wilson finished his final Pac-10 Tournament with a 300 (+12).

USC's Jamie Lovemark was the individual champion, tallying an impressive 19-under 269. He was below 70 on all four of his rounds.

The Golden Bears will now wait until Monday morning to find out their fate with the NCAA Championship committee as bids are announced for NCAA Regional competition.
