April 25, 2007
Sophomore Allison Goodman and freshman Sofia Janer of the California Golden Bear women's golf team were both selected as All-Pac-10 honorable mentions on Wednesday as announced by the league office from the conference championship at the Broadmoor Golf Club in Seattle.
Goodman (San Diego) posted a solid 2006-07 campaign and paced Cal in seven of its 10 tournaments this season. In three of her first four tournaments, Goodman placed in the top 25. She finished with an even par 218 at the Stanford Intercollegiate, before excelling in the latter portion of the schedule at the Wildcat Invitational, the Spartan Invitational, and the Dixie Classic.
Goodman posted her best performance of the season at the Wildcat Invitational in Arizona (Feb. 26-27) when she registered a one-under 219 to land an eleventh-place finish. She also recorded a solid outing at the Spartan Classic (Mar. 5-6) when she carded an even par 220 to finish in a third place tie. Goodman shot an even par 226 to place 16th at the Dixie Classic at BYU, Apr. 3-4.
At the Pac-10 Championship, which concluded Wednesday, Goodman wrapped up a successful tournament with a one-over 73 on Wednesday to finish in fifth place with an eight-over 224. It was her second top five finish at an event this season.
Janer (Bogota, Columbia) rebounded from an injury sustained in the fall to have a solid spring season for the Bears. She competed in just nine rounds prior to the conference championship where she carded a 10-over 226 for a seventh place finish (tie). Janer showed much improvement at the ASU Invite (Mar. 30-Apr. 1) finishing with a five-over 235 for the tournament.
Cal fired a third round score of 303 to finish in fifth place in the final day of competition in the Pac-10 Conference Championship on Wednesday. The Bears posted a three-day total score of 926 (312-311-303) and will wait to see if they receive an NCAA Regional bid on Monday.
