Juniors Paola Moreno and Dewi Claire Schreefel tied for seventh and the No. 6 USC women's golf team finished third overall after the final day of the 2007 Pac-10 Championships on Wednesday (April 25) at the Broadmoor G.C. in Seattle, Wash.
The Trojans' final round 307 (+19) was the third lowest of the day and gave them a 54-hole, 57-over 921 (303-311-307). Arizona State won the team title (897, +33) and was followed by UCLA (915, +51), USC, Arizona (923, +59), California (926, +62), Stanford (935, +71), Washington (938, +74), Washington State (944, +80), Oregon (972, +108) and Oregon State (982, +118).
USC finished third for the third straight year and finished among the top 5 for the 10th straight year.
Schreefel moved up into a tie for seventh with a final-round 74 for a three-day 226 (+10, 75-77-74). She carded four birdies on the day for her second top 10 finish of the year and second top 10 finish at the Pac-10 Championships (she was sixth in 2005).
Moreno (72-77-77), ranked No. 15 in the country by Golfweek.com, tied with Schreefel after a third-round that included three birdies. Moreno, who posted her fourth top 10 finish, and Schreefel extended USC's streak of having at least one golfer among the top 10 in each season since 1998.
Senior Catalina Marin tied for 21st with a 19-over 235 (83-75-77), her final round including three birdies.
USC is next in action at the 2007 NCAA Championship Regionals on May 17-19.
Within the USC-UCLA Lexus Gauntlet competition, the season-long battle between Trojans and Bruins in all sports, points for women's golf are awarded to the highest finisher between the crosstown rivals at the Pac-10 Championships. Because UCLA finished ahead of USC, the Bruins won the five points that were up for grabs for women's golf.
