Dawgs Fall To Utah Valley State, 8-5

OREM, Utah - Utah Valley State starter Marcus Moore struck out 10 Huskies over eight innings to lead the Wolverines to an 8-5 win over the Washington baseball team Thursday night.
Utah Valley (18-24) scored in innings two through five to maintain a lead over Washington, which fell to 20-19 with the loss.
Moore improved to 5-3 with the win. Over his eight innings, he allowed 10 hits and five runs, but didn't walk a batter. Craig Brimhall pitched the ninth for his first save. Husky starter Jorden Merry (6-5) suffered the loss, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits over four innings.
Freshman Jace Brinkerhoff gave the Wolverines the first lead of the game when he led off the second inning with a home run to right-center field, his fourth of the year. In the third, UVSC added two more as Tyler Garretson scored on an error and Eli Slesk came across on a single from Austin Heaps, giving the home team a 3-0 lead.
Washington replied in the top of the fourth as senior Curt Rindal hit the first pitch of the inning off the wall in right-center for a double. Right fielder Matt Hague followed with his sixth home run of the season, cutting the lead down to 3-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, UVSC tacked on a run when Keiko Albino led off with a double and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from Slesk, a senior from Ferndale, Wash.
In the fifth, the UW cut the lead to 4-3 when Brian Pearl doubled and scored on a single from Jake Rife. However, for the fourth straight inning, UVSC scored in the fifth. One came across on an RBI groundout from Adam Openshaw and Albino's second double of the game scored another to give the Wolverines a 6-3 advantage.
In the seventh, Utah Valley added a seventh run on another sacrifice fly.
Washington rallied in the eighth to cut the gap as freshman pinch hitter Joey Lind hit a two-out, two-run double. However, Slesk doubled to drive in a run in the bottom of the inning, stretching the lead back to three runs at 8-5.
Brinkerhoff went 2-for-3, reached base four times and scored three runs to lead UVSC. Washington got two hits from Hague, who was 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs, and from Rindal.
