Gruendler, Dehaine and Drean Win Early Matches at Ojai.

Ojai, Calif. - UCLA's Philipp Gruendler, Mathieu Dehaine and Jeremy Drean all won first-round singles matches in the main draw of the 2007 Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif. on Thursday.

Gruendler began the afternoon for the Bruins, defeating ASU's Wes Miller, 7-6, 6-3. He was to face USC's Kaes Van't Hof in the second round. Dehaine downed Washington's Daniel Chu, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3, setting up a second round meeting with ASU's Matt Brooklyn. Drean was UCLA's other first round winner on Thursday, defeating Oregon's Marcos Verdasco, 6-2, 6-3. Drean will face top-seeded Alex Slovic of Washington in the next round.

Sophomore Michael Look, the only other Bruin singles player in the main draw, fell in the first round 6-4, 6-4 to ASU's Juan Carlos Rebaza.

UCLA's two entrants in the invitational draw, Andrew Eklov and Jaysen Chung, both dropped first round matches.

On the women's side, UCLA's three players in the main singles draw were eliminated Thursday, as Yasmin Schnack, Tracy Lin and Ashley Joelson were all beaten in the first round.

In the invitational draw, Elizabeth Lumpkin and Alex McGoodwin were scheduled to play second round matches late Thursday, as both received a bye in the first round. Stephanie Wetmore won her first round match, downing ASU's Jessica Leitch, 6-4, 6-2. Anna-Viktoria Lind was also victorious in the first round as she beat Washington's Melinda Wong, 6-0, 6-4.
