Lemke and Lovemark Take Pac-10 Men's Golf Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Niklas Lemke of Arizona State and Jamie Lovemark of USC have been named Pac-10 Co-Golfers of the Year and Stanford coach Conrad Ray has been named Pac-10 Coach of the Year in voting by the Pac-10 men's golf coaches. Lovemark also has been named Freshman of the Year. In addition, the 2007 All-Pac-10 Men's Golf Team selected by the coaches was announced.

Lemke, a senior from Linkoping, Sweden, has had a sensational senior season and is currently the number-two ranked player in the nation by Golfweek. Lemke has three wins and five other top-five finishes in 10 tournaments played this year. He posted victories in the Fighting Illini Invitational, the National Invitational Tournament and the ASU Thunderbird Invitational. For his win in the Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields, Lemke earned Pac-10 Player of the Month honors and was named Golfweek National Player of the Week. He has posted a stroke average of 69.9 in 31 rounds this season, with scores in the 60s in 17 of those 31 rounds.

Lovemark, a freshman from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., burst on the Pac-10 scene this year to earn both Pac-10 Co-Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors. Lovemark has posted three wins and three other top five finishes in 11 tournaments this year, capped off by a six-stroke win in the just completed Pac-10 Championships. He is currently ranked the number five golfer in the nation by Golfweek. In addition to the Pac-10 Championships, Lovemark posted wins in the Big 10/Pac-10 Challenge and the Oregon Duck Invitational. Coincidentally, all three of those tournaments were played in the state of Oregon, with the Pac-10 Championships and Duck Invitational both played at Eugene Country Club. In 34 rounds this season, Lovemark has a stroke average of 70.6, with 15 of the 34 rounds in the 60s.

Ray, in his third year as head coach, has directed a remarkable resurgence in Stanford golf. Stanford is currently the top-ranked team in the nation by Golfweek by virtue of winning six of the 11 tournaments it entered this year, with two other runnerup finishes. The Stanford team victories came in the Gopher Invitational, The Prestige at PGA West, the Corde Valle Classic, the UH-Hilo Invitational, the Ashworth Collegiate Invitational and the U.S. Intercollegiate. Ray is a former player and team captain at Stanford and was a member of the Cardinal's 1994 NCAA Championship team.
