Box Score

BERKELEY, Calif. - Arizona State saw their 12-game win streak come to an end on Friday afternoon in Berkeley, as Cal's ace Tyson Ross fanned nine Sun Devil batters, leading the Golden Bears to a 4-2 win over ASU. The Devils fall to 33-11 on the year, 10-3 in Pac-10 play.

Ross improved to 5-5 on the year, while Sun Devil starter Josh Satow took the loss to drop to 9-3. Satow lasted six innings, allowing six hits and four runs, two of which were unearned. He also struck out six in the loss. Ross lasted eight innings to pick up the win.

Cal scored first, plating a run in the bottom of the first off Satow. Ike Davis made sure the lead didn't last long, crushing a ball to deep right field in the top of the second for his fifth homer of the year. It was the first home run for Davis since his grand slam against USC on March 25th.

The Bears grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the third, scoring a run after a two-out walk, a stolen base and a wild pitch put a runner on third. A blooper into shallow right brought the run home for a 2-1 Cal lead. Arizona State drew even in the top of the fourth on a Matt Spencer RBI groundout that scored Eric Sogard.

Things unraveled for the Devils in the bottom of the fifth, as two errors allowed two unearned runs to come across against Satow, giving Cal a 4-2 lead. The errors would prove to be costly, as the unearned runs were the difference in the game. Cal closer Matt Gorgen came in to pitch the ninth, picking up his eighth save of the year.

Ike Davis came up a triple short of the cycle, going 3-4 with an RBI. Petey Paramore also added two hits for the Sun Devils.

The Devils and Bears continue their three-game series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. from Evans Diamond.
