Opata and Selaru Advance to Semifinal at Pac-10 Championships

Ojai, Calif. - The Washington State women's tennis team advanced one doubles tandem into the semifinal in the second day of competition at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships, Friday, in Ojai, Calif.
Sophomore Bianca Selaru and redshirt freshman Anastesia Opata, playing for the first time together, highlighted the Cougars' second day of competition with a berth into the doubles invitational bracket semifinal. The WSU duo started the day with an 8-5 victory over Becky Duesler and Sarah Yang of UCLA. The tandem then defeated Sarah Fansler and Julie Smekodub in the round of 16, 3-2, after an USC opponent suffered an injury. Next up for Selaru and Opata is Claire Ilcinkas and Bojana Bobusic of California, Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Cougars were not as fortunate in the Championship flight as Ekaterina Burduli and Amy Toth suffered a first round loss against Judy DeVera and Amanda Fink of USC, 8-2. Aleksandra Stefanova and Aleksandra Cekic had similar fates as they fell to UCLA's Tracy Lin and Anna Victoria Lind, 8-2 invitational.
The Cougars will compete in day three of action, Saturday, April 27.
