SEATTLE-- Washington junior Lauren Greer drove in three runs including the game-winner against Oregon Saturday as the 11th-ranked Huskies downed the 16th-ranked Ducks 6-4 in front of a capacity crowd of 1,264 at Husky Softball Stadium. The wins lifts Washington to 31-13 on the season and 8-6 in the Pac-10, which puts UW just one game out of second place in the conference standings. Oregon falls to 39-13 on the season and 4-10 in the Pac-10.

The Ducks jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with a solo home run by freshman Jenn Salling.

Washington responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on two hits and an Oregon error. Sophomore Marnie Koziol led off with a single up the middle and Dominique Lastrapes reached base on an error by Salling. Greer then laced her team-leading 10th double of the season into the left-center gap to score two and put UW on top, 2-1.

The Huskies manufactured another run in the third on just one hit. All-American Ashley Charters led off the frame with a single up the middle and moved to third with a stolen base and sacrifice by Koziol. Charters then scored on a ground out by Lastrapes to the right side to give Washington the 3-1 advantage.

Oregon tacked on a run in the top of the fourth on a pair of hits. Neena Bryant led off with a single through the right side and stole second base. Kristi Leiter then hit an RBI-single through the right side to score Bryant and cut UW's lead to 3-2.

UW hurler Danielle Lawrie (20-8) came into the game in relief in the top of the fifth and struck out the first two batters she faced. She then walked Salling before giving up a two-run shot to Pac-10 home run leader Ann Marie Topps as the Ducks took the lead, 4-3

Washington battled back in the bottom half of the frame, scoring two runs to regain the lead. Charters and Lastrapes each singled and Dena Tyson drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases. Greer then belted a single through the right side to score two and put UW back on top 5-4.

The Huskies added an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI-double by Charters. The hit scored senior Nicole Moojen, who had reached base on a single, as Washington stretched its lead to 6-4.

Lawrie settled in, allowing just one hit in the final two innings and fanned eight batters total en route to her 20th victory of the season. She allowed just two runs on two hits in three innings.

UW starter Noble also pitched well, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out seven in four innings.

Melissa Rice (21-11) took the loss for Oregon as she gave up six runs on eight hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
