USC Evens Pac-10 Series With 9-5 Win Over Washington State

April 28, 2007

LOS ANGELES - The USC Trojans scored five runs in the second inning Saturday to pace a 9-5 win against the Washington State Cougars to even the Pac-10 Conference series. Matt Cusick went 2-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored while Ryan Cook went seven innings to pick up the win.

USC evens its overall record at 22-22 with a 5-9 record in the Pac-10 while Washington State falls to 21-19 overall, 4-10 in conference.

The Trojans took advantage of three errors by WSU second baseman Jeff Miller to take a 6-1 lead after the second. Freshman Robert Stock started the second-inning rally with an RBI single. With the bases loaded, Cusick hit a ground ball to second, but Miller's throw to second base was off the mark to score the second run. A walk to Grant Green, a fielder's choice by Lucas Duda and a groundout by J.J. Owen produced the final three runs.

Cook hit two WSU batters in the third as the Cougars loaded the bases, scoring two runs in the inning. After allowing just one run in the fourth, Cook threw three scoreless innings to improve to 6-2 on the season.

Miller went 3-for-4 with two RBI and hit a solo home run in the eighth, his seventh on the year.

The series concludes tomorrow at noon and will be broadcast live on
