April 29, 2007
OJAI, Calf. - With only two Sun Devils still playing for the Women's Sun Devil Tennis teams, both fell in the finals with Laila Abdala falling in the singles Invitational Draw finals and as well in the Doubles Invitational Draw Finals with partner, Rebecca Rankin.
Up first in singles, Laila Abdald took on USC's Julie Smekodub in the Singles Invitational Draw Final. Smekodub proved to be too much for Abdala taking the match in straight sets with a 6-1, 6-4 win.
In the Doubles Invitational Finals, Laila took the court again paired with Rebecca Rankin where they took on Cal's Bobusic and Ilcinkas duo. The Golden Bears rallied off a strong 8-3 win over the Sun Devils to take the title and wrap up the 2007 Pac-10 Tennis Championships.
Up next, the Sun Devils await to hear about postseason play with the NCAA announcing host sites and competing teams this Wednesday, May 2 at 10 a.m. PT on ESPNews.
