PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State University track and field thrower McKenzie Garberg, was named the Pacific-10 Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for April 23-29.
Garberg, a junior, from Benton City, Wash., earned the honor after winning all three throws events she competed in at the WSU-UW Dual April 27. Garberg had accomplished the same triple wins the previous week at the Cougar Invitational Meet.
At the WSU-UW Dual meet, Garberg threw improved NCAA Regional Qualifying marks in both the shot put and discus. She won the shot put with a lifetime-best toss of 48-feet, 11 inches (14.91m), won the discus with a PR toss of 169-3 (51.58m), which is fifth-best in WSU history, and won the hammer with a meet record and NCAA RQ of 193-6 (58.99m). Earlier this season, Garberg threw the hammer 194-9 (59.37m), which is the second best hammer mark in WSU women's history. Garberg scored 15 points of WSU women's winning total of 102 points.
Earlier this year, WSU's Diana Pickler was selected the Pac-10 Women's Track Athlete of the Week for April 2-8, after she won the Texas Relays heptathlon with a school-record and fourth-best collegiate mark ever with a total of 6,205 points.
