UCLA's Tyson Brummett Garners Third Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week Honor

Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA senior right-hander Tyson Brummett captured Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of April 23-29, the conference announced Tuesday. Brummett earned his third Pac-10 weekly honor of the season after throwing his sixth complete game on Friday, April 27, in UCLA's 9-3 victory over Arizona.
Brummett struck out six, allowing just three runs (two earned) off five hits, in the complete-game effort last Friday. The Salem, Utah, native has earned the victory in each of his last five starts and has pitched a complete game in each of his last three starts (and four of his last five).
Last Friday, Brummett became just the 14th pitcher in school history to record six or more complete games in a season. Former Bruin and major league pitcher Tim Leary (1977-79) hurled 10 complete games in 1979. Six UCLA pitchers have thrown seven complete games.
Earlier this season, Brummett was named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete game victory in UCLA's Pac-10 opener at Stanford on Friday, March 30. The senior right-hander also earned the weekly honor after recording his second complete game in as many outings on Friday, Feb. 23 at Cal State Fullerton, where he struck out a season-high 10 batters.
Brummett and Arizona's Preston Guilmet have each been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week three times this season. UCLA's Friday night ace has earned the weekly honor four times in his career.
