May 1, 2007
LOS ANGELES - USC redshirt senior Noah Bryant was named Pac-10 Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week (April 23-29) today (May 1), after winning the shot put competition with a school record-breaking mark in the Trojans' Dual Meet victory over UCLA on April 28 at Loker Stadium on the USC campus.
Bryant's throw of 67-5 1/2 (20.56m) broke Doug Lane's USC record of 66-11 1/4 (20.40m) which had stood for 35 years. The 2007 NCAA indoor shot put champion Bryant actually broke the record with his third attempt in the competiton, which went 67-2 (20.47m), but bettered that mark in his next attempt with his new PR of 67-5 1/2.
Bryant now owns the top NCAA mark this season and has the sixth-farthest shot put in the world this season.
Earlier this season, Bryant threw the hammer 214-11 1/2 (65.52m) which ranks eighth on USC's all-time hammer list.
For Bryant, this was his second Pac-10 honor this season, as he earned Pac-10 Conference Male Co-Field Athlete of the Week on April 9, after winning the Pepsi Team Invitational shot put competition in Eugene, Ore.
