WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - WASHINGTON sophomore Danielle Lawrie has been named the Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for Apr. 24-30, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Lawrie earned every decision in a 3-1 week for the Huskies, not allowing more than two runs in any appearance, and fanning 39 batters on the week to move into second on the UW single-season strikeout list with 335 behind her own freshman year total of 387 Ks.

On Wednesday, Lawrie led the Huskies to a 2-1 series win over 12th-ranked UCLA, entering in relief and surrendering just two hits and one run over 4.1 innings to qualify for the victory. The only run Lawrie allowed came in the 7th inning with UW leading 8-2. She walked none and struck out six on the day.

Lawrie pitched well but suffered from lack of run support vs. Oregon State on Friday. The sophomore threw a complete game, striking out 15 Beavers and giving up two runs on five hits, but the Huskies were blanked, 2-0. Lawrie pitched another three innings of relief on Saturday vs. Oregon, striking out eight and picking up the win despite allowing two runs in Washington's 6-4 victory.

Lawrie's best outing came on Sunday, as she threw a one-hit shutout against the Ducks, who had only been blanked in one previous game all season. The only hit she allowed was a bloop single in the fifth inning, and the Huskies run-ruled the Ducks, 8-0, in six innings. She did not issue a walk and K'd 10 batters.

Lawrie's 335 strikeouts are third in the Conference but she leads the league with 12.79 strikeouts per game. Her 1.57 ERA is fifth in the Pac-10.

Washington (9-6 Pac-10, 32-13) is now in a three-way tie for second in the Conference with Arizona State and UCLA. The Huskies host Stanford on Friday and then California on Saturday and Sunday this week.

This is Lawrie's fourth career Pitcher of the Week honor and third this season, but first since March 5. It is the 60th Player/Pitcher of the Week award all-time for Washington.
