The Conference experienced a first last week, as ARIZONA and STANFORD could not squeeze a run across the plate after 12 innings Sunday night. With the Wildcats needing to make their flight back to Tucson, the game was halted and declared a tie, the first ever tie game in Pac-10 play ... Sunday's game notwithstanding, the most significant Conference tie is the one for second place, as ARIZONA STATE, UCLA, and WASHINGTON are all even a 9-6, trailing Arizona, which enjoyed a balanced 1-1-1 series last week ... CALIFORNIA proved it would not pack up the tents after a 2-11 start to league play, as the Golden Bears took two from the Sun Devils in Berkeley over the weekend, proving again that no Pac-10 win is easy ... more series conclude during this, the second to last week of the regular season, as the Arizona schools travel to OREGON and OREGON STATE, and the Bay Area schools take turns at UCLA and Washington ... the Pac-10 continues to own the highest RPI as a conference, according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, and the Wildcats rank No. 1 for team RPI.

Wed., May 2Portland State at OREGON, 4 p.m.

ARIZONA (11-3-1, 35-10-1): The Wildcats completed a symmetrical 1-1-1 week, defeating Cal, losing at Stanford, and then fighting to a 0-0 tie with the Cardinal in 12 innings ... the Stanford game was called when Arizona was forced to leave to make its flight home. It is the first tie for Arizona since the Pac-10 started softball in 1987. UA's last tie came in 1986 ... junior Taryne Mowatt was denied a decision on Sunday despite throwing all 12 innings and allowing no runs on just three hits. Mowatt through a complete game shutout vs. the Golden Bears, upping her Pac-10 best win total to 27 ... the Wildcats stranded 12 baserunners in the scoreless affair ... senior Caitlin Lowe led off the Cal game with a flared single to left field. She promptly stole her 149th career base, breaking Alison McCutcheon's school record of 148 career steals. The play was also Lowe's 42nd successful steal in as many attempts this year, giving her the third most stolen bases without being caught in NCAA history. Lowe is now second in steals in Pac-10 history, trailing UCLA's Natasha Watley, who swiped 158 ... junior Adrienne Acton was 5-for-9 on the weekend with two runs scored vs. Cal and an RBI on Saturday vs. Stanford. She also stole a base in each game ... Arizona has won 17-straight at home and is 23-1 at Hillenbrand Stadium ... in other Lowe-related records, the senior is now seventh on the Pac-10 hits list with 330 and ninth in runs scored with 231, having recently passed Stanford's Jessica Mendoza in both categories ... senior Chelsie Mesa is the Pac-10's leading hitter with two outs, batting .512 (21-for-41) ... Burkhart took the loss on Saturday despite allowing just one hit and striking out 14 in a complete game effort. The one hit was a home run by Vernae Sevilla in the 5th, and ASU was shut out, 1-0. The loss marked the second time this season that Burkhart has pitched a one-hitter and still taken a loss. The first came on Apr. 1 at Washington, when the Huskies scored an unearned run in the 7th to win, 1-0 ... in Arizona State's last six losses, they have scored only one total run ... Burkhart ranks in the top-10 nationally in strikeouts per seven innings (6th - 11.5), wins (8th - 26), and ERA (6th - 0.94) ... lefties are hitting a scant .108 against Burkhart this year, best in the Pac-10 ... OREGON (4-11, 39-14): The Ducks defeated rival Oregon State on Wednesday, 6-5, to capture the Civil War Cup for the Ducks for the first time since 2004, two games to one. OSU closed out the week with a rare Monday game, a 3-2 win over UC Santa Barbara ... on Sunday, senior Mia Longfellow set a pair of Beaver milestones, passing Jodi Chmielewski (1996-99) in both career hits and singles to stand as the all-time OSU hits leader. STANFORD (6-8-1, 31-14-1): The Cardinal posted a 2-1-1 mark, losing to ASU but upsetting fourth-ranked Arizona for their biggest win of the year. That win was followed by Sunday's literally never-ending game against the Wildcats, where the game was called after 12 scoreless innings so UA could make its flight home ... the tie game was Stanford's first-ever in a Pac-10 game, and just its second tie all-time, the last coming in 2001 ... in the tie, Stanford put at least one on in 11 of the 12 innings, and put runners in scoring position six times, but could not plate the winner. Likewise, Arizona had baserunners in 10 of 12 innings but sophomore Missy Penna put the clamps on every Wildcat rally. Penna went the entire 12 innings, allowing 10 hits and three walks and striking out 11, her 10th double-digit strikeout game of the season ... in Saturday's win over Arizona, junior Becky McCullough earned her second Pac-10 win by throwing a complete game, allowing just two runs on five hits and no walks ... freshman Alissa Haber had her 11-game hitting streak snapped vs. San Jose State. Legaspi is now seventh at UCLA in career RBI with 153, and sixth in home runs with 42 ... in the circle last week for the Bruins, freshman Megan Langenfeld appeared in all four games, finishing with a 2-0 record and a save with 14 strikeouts through 17.1 innings. She got the win in UCLA's 8-0 win over Oregon, and its 6-3 win over OSU. Finally, Langenfeld came in for the final two outs of Sunday's victory over the Beavers to earn her first career save.
