Bidleman Seventh At Midway Point of Pac-10 Decathlon
May 5, 2007
STANFORD, Calif. - Washington senior Blake Bidleman earned top-five finishes in two of five events Saturday to place seventh through one day of competition in the decathlon at the Pac-10 Championships Multi-Events competition. The two-day event, featuring UW decathletes Bidleman and Corey Fredericks, and heptathletes Liz Fuller and Daria Amiad-Pavlov, concludes Sunday.
Redmond native Bidleman - one of just eight Huskies ever to top 7,000 points in the decathlon - was nearly halfway to that total after Saturday's competition, scoring 3,485 points. Despite failing to record a personal-best in any of the first five events held Saturday, Bidleman achieved top-five finishes in both the 400 meters (5th, 50.69 seconds) and high jump (fourth, 6-2 ¾) to move into seventh place after one day of competition, just over 500 points back of day-one leader and defending champion Josh Arnold of Arizona.
Sophomore Fredericks, meanwhile, was 12th in the decathlon with 3,173 points, while fellow sophomores Fuller and Pavlov were 10th (2,798) and 15th (2,034), respectively, in the Pac-10 Championships heptathlon, led by WSU's Diana Pickler (3,586).
The Pac-10 multi-events competitions conclude Sunday, with the full Pac-10 Championship meet scheduled to begin next Friday, also at Stanford.
