DiCesare in 10th-place After Day 1 of Pac-10 Decathlon Championships

Freshman Casey DiCesare is in striking distance of a top-8 finish at the Pac-10 Decathlon Championships in Palo Alto, CA as he stands in 10th-place after day one with a season-best point total of 3,324. Arizona's Jake Arnold leads after five events with a score of 4,035 points.
DiCesare opened up the day with a 100m time of 11.62 (728 points) for the 10th-fastest time in that event. In the 400m, he ran the ninth-fastest time, running 52.22 (715 points).
The freshman then headed over to the field events where he cleared the ninth-best height of 6-0 (653 points) and leaped out to the 10th-best mark of the day in the long jump (20-11.75/673 points). In the final event, the shot put, DiCesare threw 36-7 for the eighth-best mark, picking up 555 points.
Despite posting no season-best marks on the first day of the decathlon, DiCesare posted a season-best score of 3,324 points.
Competition wraps up on Sunday with the final five events - 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m.
