UW Women Fall to Sounders in Soccer Exhibition

SEATTLE -- Defender Kelli Smith scored two second-half goals against her alma mater Saturday, leading the Seattle Crossfire Sounders to a 5-0 win over Washington in a women's soccer exhibition at Husky Soccer Field.
Washington concludes its spring session, Saturday, May 12 against Portland State. Kick-off is 7 p.m. at Husky Soccer Field.

Smith was a four-year starter at Washington between 2001-2004. She did not score a goal in 76 career collegiate games.
She netted her first score in the 53rd minute, heading a cross from Chalise Baysa off the post and into the goal. Smith teamed with former UW volunteer assistant coach Michelle French in the 83rd minute. French, a former University of Portland standout, served a corner kick to the top of the box that Smith chipped into the upper right corner from 20 yards out.
Brooke Reese capped the scoring in the 85th minute. She stole a pass and blasted a 20-yard shot into the net.
The Sounders scored twice in the first half, a 13th-minute goal by Erin Redwine and a 40th-minute tally by Lyndsay Patterson.
Taylor Carr played all 90 minutes in goal for the Huskies and made five saves. Seattle starter Carly Smolak registered two saves before being replaced in the 75th minute by Meghan Miller who did not stop a shot.
The Sounders compete in the USL W-League. Seattle completes its pre-season May 12 at Oregon before opening the regular season, May 20 at Vancouver.
