Conrad, Grimes Finish Seventh in Their Events at the Pac-10 Multi Championship

STANFORD, Calif. - California's sophomore Steven Conrad and junior Tifani Grimes finished up the Pac-10 Track and Field Multi Event Championships, presented by 76 Gasolines on Sunday, in Stanford, Calif. Both Conrad and Grimes finished seventh in their respective events.
Conrad earned two points for the Golden Bear men's team, finishing with 6565 points in the decathlon. The Grass Valley, Calif., native finished second in the 100m at 11.07, and was clocked at 15.39 in the 110m hurdles and 4:47.26 in the 1500m. Conrad won the 400m with his time of 49.10.He also threw the shot put 41-01.00 (12.52m) and in the discus tossed it 123-09 (37.72m). In the long jump, Conrad finished at 22-11.00 (6.98m) and in the high jump he hit 6-03.50 (1.92m). Conrad threw the javelin 172-11 (52.72m), finishing second. He did not notch a height on the pole vault. Arizona's Jake Arnold won the competition.
After the two days competition, Grimes finished the heptathlon with 4972 points, also scoring two points for the Golden Bear women's team. On the track, Grimes was timed at 15.07 in the 100m hurdles, 26.83 in the 200m and 2:29.48 in the 800m. Grimes jumped a 5-07.75 (1.72m) in the high jump and 17-09.75 (5.43m) in the long jump. She tossed the shot put 37-04.5 (11.39m) and threw the javelin 108-07 (33.10m).
On Saturday a group of Bears competed at the 66th Coca-Cola Modesto Relays. Both freshmen Taylor Franklin and Theresa Raub competed in the pole vault. Franklin notched an 11-05.75 (3.50m) and Raub posted a 10-11.75 (3.35m). On the men's side in the pole vault, freshman Ryan Shuler finished fifth with his mark of 16-06.75 (5.05m).
In the women's shot put, sophomore Emilee Strot finished fifth with her mark of 49-05.00 (15.06m) and sophomore Missy Faubus notched a 47-07.25 (14.51m). Strot and Faubus also competed in the discuss throw notching a 174-11 (53.31m) and 158-00 (48.15m), respectively. Senior Kelechi Anyanwu also competed in the discus throw finishing ninth with her mark of 176-10 (53.89m). Sophomore Inika McPherson also competed in the high jump posting a 5-10.00 (1.78m), finishing third.
Cal will gear up for the Pac-10 Track and Field Multi Event Championships, presented by 76 Gasolines next weekend on the Stanford campus. The event will run Saturday, April 12 thru Sunday, April 13.
